Olympic VIPs Will Use 4,000 BMWs As Transport During London Games

It has been revealed that 4,000 BMW cars will be used to transport Olympic officials and other VIPs around the British Olympic venues this summer.
The news was announced as spectators attending the events were told to use public or environmentally friendly transport to make the Olympics the greenest ever.
The 4,000 luxury cars will be shipped over from Germany in time for the games and if each car was parked end-to-end would cause a tail back of ten miles. Only 200 of these cars will be electric vehicles according to the Bavarian company.
More than 3,000 BMW 3 and 5 Series saloons make up the convey which will be allowed to travel along special 'Olympic Lanes' reserved for the VIPs and dignitaries for the duration of the XXX Olympiad.
At least 250 VIPs will be given their own car complete with chauffeur who will collect them from their exclusive London hotels and driven to the Olympic venues.
The remaining cars will be shared between the 'Olympic Family', which consists of sponsors, dignitaries and athletes.
Jenny Jones, a London Assembly Member for the Green Party said: “Most of the athletes will be staying in the Olympic Village and won’t need to travel to events, so the BMWs are really for the politicians and dignitaries.
“Four thousand vehicles seems lunatic when we have such a good public transport system. I can understand a few officials need secure transport but 4,000? Shipping new cars in from Germany is also extremely bad news for the environment,” she added.
